Objectif

A support program for Triangle to make annotated figures.

Objectif is a program which runs under Microsoft Windows and allows the user to create annotated pictures for use with the TRIANGLE program by the Science Access Project at Oregon State University. With Objectif, the user can create and label (annotate) tactile images for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

To create the graphic files used by the Triangle program, generally, a bitmap image is loaded into the Objectif program. The image will appear in the Picture window. Individual graphic objects are then drawn over the bitmap reference. Each object may be annotated in the Annotation window. After all objects are drawn and labeled, the project is saved with a .map extension. Triangle can then load and print the image, which is the composite of all the objects. The maximum graphic resolution of the picture is 80 by 100 pixels (Braille dots) and can be printed from Triangle to a Braille printer with graphic capability such as the TSI Versapoint Printer.

When the printed picture is placed on a tactile device such as the Nomad II by APH or the TouchWindow by Edmark, and the appropriate .map file is loaded into the Triangle program, pressing on an object in the picture will display the annotated text in the Figure window of Triangle.

Downloading and Installing Objectif

Objectif comes in two flavors: Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 compatible. The Windows 3.1 version will work in either W31 or W95, however, the Windows 95 version comes with a complete set-up installation program.

To Download Objectif for Windows 3.1:

1. Create a Triangle or Objectif directory on your hard disk drive. (May have any valid DOS path name.)
2. Download Objectif for Windows 3.1. (265 Kb)
3. UnZIP the program files from the archive.
4. Read the README text file for further instructions.
5. Place the CMDIALOG.VBX file in the Windows directory and the VBRUN300.DLL file in the Windows System directory.
6. Type 'objectif' at the DOS prompt (when in the directory with the Objectif program) or click on the Objectif.exe program when in Windows.

To Download Objectif for Windows 95:

1. Create a Triangle or Objectif directory on your hard disk drive. (May have any valid DOS path name.)
2. Download Objectif for Windows 95. (1,570 Kb)
3. UnZIP the program files from the archive.
4. Read the README95 text file for further instructions.
5. Type 'setup' at the DOS prompt or click on the setup.exe icon in Windows 95 to install objectif.
