There is also a context-sensitive help file that contains descriptions of every element. Pressing F1 while focus is on an object of interest will bring up the help information for that object.
The Accessible Graphing Calculator user interface consists of seven tab pages and a set of Menus. The Tab Pages act as the interface for the Accessible Graphing Calculator's main features while the Menus serve for file handling, quick navigation between the Tab Pages, graph options, and Help files.
The Accessible Graphing Calculator is keyboard friendly. The Keypad Calculator tab page is automatically displayed when starting the program. The focus is in the tab page choices. The other tab pages can be accessed by using the arrow keys to move between tab pages or by selecting the desired page from the Options menu.
The TAB key moves the focus between items displayed on the screen. The space bar will select toggle an item if it is a button or check box. If the item is a list or slider, the arrow keys will choose between items or adjust values. Many items can also be selected by pressing a keyboard shortcut for the function. SHIFT TAB moves the focus in the opposite direction from the TAB key.
The Accessible Graphing Calculator is designed to be able to speak all menus, data fields, commands, functions, and any other text-based information that is presented. This ability allows blind users to fully access every part of the program. This program does not require a separate Windows screen reading program, but does need a SAPI compliant speech engine. A Microsoft Text-to-Speech SAPI engine is included in the AGC install package.
When starting the Accessible Graphing Calculator, the speech option is off. Speech is conveniently toggled on and off by the ALT-s hot key. Speech rate, pitch, and volume controls are on the SPEECH tab page.
