Title of Project: Audio Display of Non-Textural Scientific Information

Investigators:

Dr. Steven Sahyun, Graduate Research Associate, Physics Department.
Dr. John Gardner, Professor, Physics Department.

The purpose of this study is to aid in the development of Tutorials, Manuals, and other material associated with the Accessible Graphing Calculator program. Participants will evaluate the Accessible Graphing Calculator program by completing at least two of the six tutorials. Also, participants will answer and return comments to questions located at the end of the tutorials that they choose to evaluate.

The results of this research will be used to improve the Accessible Graphing Calculator's documentation. All responses will be treated as confidential and names will not be used in any publications or presentations of the data obtained, unless we are given written permission otherwise. It should be noted that responses sent by e-mail are not encrypted and are thus less secure than those sent by post.

Participation in this study is voluntary and you may either refuse to participate or withdraw from the study at any time, although full participation is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions about the research study and/or specific procedures, please send e-mail to agc@dots.physics.orst.edu or write to:

Installing the Accessible Graphing Calculator

After downloading, you should have the file AGC-SETUP.EXE on your hard drive. This is a self-extracting archive containing the setup.exe program and related installation files. After extracting the archive the setup.exe program will automatically run.

  1. Run the AGC-SETUP.EXE file by double clicking on the file or by selecting and press ENTERS.
  2. A dialog box will appear requesting the directory to put the Accessible Graphing Calculator set-up files; the default directory is c:\temp\agc. Press the "Unzip" button, or use the ALT U keys. Close the dialog box when finished.
  3. After unpacking the files, the Setup program will automatically start. After a few moments, an install dialog box will appear. Click on the OK button or press the ENTER key.
  4. Another set-up dialog box will appear indicating the directory to install the Accessible Graphing Calculator. Click on the big button with the computer icon or press the ENTER key to accept the default directory, or click on the Change Directory button and enter the desired directory for installation.
  5. A "Choose Program Group" dialog box will appear. Click on the Continue button or press the ENTER key.
  6. A SAPI speech engine dialog box will appear. If you would like the Accessible Graphing Calculator to be self-voicing, and need a SAPI Text-to-Speech engine and/or voices installed, click on the Yes button or press ENTER. Otherwise, click on the No button.
  7. After the installation process is complete, click on the OK button or press the ENTER key.
