Graph Menu

The Graph menu contains four items for evaluating and plotting expressions, both visually and with sound. This menu is important for displaying the visual graph and audio graphs as well as for updating the graphs to reflect any changes made to data points or display options.

Evaluate Expression

This item will evaluate the data source selected in the Plot tab page. The selected source is reflected in the menu item's label. Data set 1 or Data set 2 can also be evaluated by pressing RETURN after an expression has been entered into the expression box. Either of these operations sets the list box on the Plot tab page to the appropriate data set. However, if you have changed data points in a plotted table, or adjusted visual or audio graph settings, it is necessary to choose this Evaluate menu item for the graphs to be updated. If sound effects option is checked, a bell is heard after the computer has completed the evaluation. F4 is the hot key for this operation.

Play Data Set

This menu item plays the audio graph of the current data source as determined by the Source setting on the Plot tab page. This selection is disabled until at least one data set has been evaluated. This menu item performs the same function as the inaccessible Play button on the Wave tab page. Other settings on Wave tab page control the playback rate and auditory cues. The Play Data Set item is also called by the F5 hot key.

Write Wave File

This menu item saves the audio graph as a file in the standard .wav file format. This is a way to save the graph for latter playback from other audio programs. After choosing this menu option, a save dialog box appears and you may choose the filename and location.

Show Graph/Hide Graph

This menu item displays or hides the visual graph on the left side of the screen. Below the graph are three text boxes that display the X and Y coordinates of the graph's cursor as well as any uncertainty value for the point where the cursor is located. ALT LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys move the graph's cursor and the coordinates displayed in the boxes change accordingly. There is an auditory display representing the Y axis value at the cursor location as the cursor is moved along the X axis. F3 is the hot key to display the graph and CTRL F3 hides the graph.
